Arthur Miller (1915-2005) werd geboren in New York City en studeerde aan de Universiteit van Michigan. Zijn andere werken zijn Situation Normal (1944), the novel Focus (1945), screenplay The Misfits (1960), en teksten voor in Russia (1969), in the Country (1977), en Chinese Encounters (1979), drie boeken in samenwerking met zijn vrouw, fotograaf Inge Morath. Hij werd benoemd tot Jefferson Lecturer voor de National Endowment for the Humanities in 2001. Hij ontving onder andere de Pulitzer Prize for Drama en de John F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award.
